Detailed description of Brae Burn Golf Course

Brae Burn Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Plymouth, Michigan.

Brae Burn Golf Course first opened for play in 1923. The course was designed by Wilfrid A. Reid.

Brae Burn's biggest claim to fame is "The Monster" the 617-yard double dogleg par 5. The first bend is left; the second almost 90 degrees right. There is absolutely no way to get to the green in two.

Both the tee shot and your second will be intimidated by a swamp on the left, and trees on the right. It's those towering trees that prevent you from going for the green in two. The second part of the dogleg simply doesn't leave you with an option. The third shot will hopefully be at the green if you have successfully navigated the turns.

Although The Monster is tough, it's not the hardest hole on the course. The 31 handicap hole is #6, a 422 yard par-4. The tee shot is straight away, no problem. The second shot is a different matter, it must carry a deep ravine to a green perched on the edge of a hill.

The rest of the holes at Brae Burn Golf Course offer a good mix of challenges. It's a rolling layout, with lots of elevated greens and tee boxes and shots over depressions. Water comes into play on 17 of the 18 holes.

There are not a lot of bunkers on the course, but the greens and surrounding areas are treacherous enough without them. There are false fronts, dips right in front of the green, dangerously greens, and on one hole, strange rough covered swales right in the middle of the fairway.

Par for the course is 70. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,411 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,072 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 13, a par-5 that plays to 617 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 134 yards from the back tees.

As mentioned, watch out for # 6, a 422 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Brae Burn Golf Course is # 11, a 171 yard par-3.

This is a nice course for the price if you are a senior citizen and play during the week. The cost is too much for weekend play (better courses in area for the same price).

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
